Dr. George Arthur Spendlove, 75, Pleasant Grove, former state health director, died June 26, 1988, of congestive heart failure in American Fork.
Spendlove, who was health director for a number of years, served in many other medical and administrative positions in Utah and other states.He was an associate clinical professor of medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine; state health commissioner for Utah and Arizona; chief of research and development, Washington State Health Department; and a consultant to the Atomic Energy Commission.
For his many years of service and dedication to the state of Utah, President Lyndon B. Johnson gave Spendlove the President's Citatin for Distinguished Leadership and Devotion.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Pleasant Grove 8th Ward chapel, 1255 E. Second South, Pleasant Grove. Friends may call at Berg Mortuary, 500 N. State St., Orem, from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and at the ward chapel one hour before the service. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
