Installments of Idaho public television's "Outdoor Idaho" series will be broadcast in nine other states this summer in an effort to boost tourism.

The half-hour series on hunting, fishing, hiking and other outdoor activities around the state has been picked up by stations in Kansas, Utah, Montana, Oregon, Washington, California, Alaska, Virginia and Illinois, Idaho Educational Public Broadcasting System program director Ron Pisaneschi said. The system has been producing the program since 1983, but this will be the first time it has aired outside of Idaho.

The offer is part of a national exchange program among public television affiliates, and the 13 installments being made available this summer will be transmitted to the receiving stations by satellite.

"It's our hope that, depending on the initial success, we will try to do this next year as well," Pisaneschi said.
