Paul Robert Rubey - being investigated in the kidnapping and sexual assault of a Salt Lake woman - was released from the Salt Lake County Jail Monday after posting $25,000 cash bail.

Rubey, 968 Military Drive, appeared Monday morning before 3rd Circuit Judge Roger Livingston, who lowered bail from $200,000 to $25,000. Rubey's attorney, Robert Van Sciver, later presented a cashier's check to the court for that amount, a clerk said.Sex-crimes detective Pat Smith is investigating the story of a 23-year-old woman who claims a man took her to a vacant apartment at 127 S. Eighth East, held her there for two days and sexually assaulted her.

Smith said she will screen the case with prosecutors on Wednesday.

Rubey, arrested at his home Saturday afternoon, was the subject of a Deseret News story last September concerning operations of a loan business he ran called Financial Services.
