Regular rebounders benefit from higher bone density, according to research reported by the Journal of Sport and Health Science. Researchers measured the bone density of 29 female trampolinists and found they had “higher bone density at the hip and spine . . . as well as larger bones at both the tibia and radius” than a non-trampolining person.
Trampolinists also had more strength in the muscles that control the lower body, researchers observed. This indicates the benefit of rebounding as a way to maintain bone and muscle health, potentially reducing your risk of the natural bone weakening that occurs with age. With stronger bones also comes a lower risk of fracture, which means less chance an injury will derail your health goals.
Burn calories with lower impact
The effort required while rebounding helps condition your heart and lungs. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), jumping on a trampoline qualifies as moderate physical activity with a metabolic rate value of 3.0 to 6.0 METs. This means for each minute of rebounding, you’re burning 3.5 to 7 calories, which is similar to activities like shoveling snow, gymnastics, volleyball or hiking but with a lower level of impact.
