Real Salt Lake forward Yura Movsisyan (14) gestures into the crowd after scoring a goal as Real Salt Lake goes on to defeat New York Red Bulls 2-1 in Sandy on Wednesday, June 22, 2016.

Real Salt Lake has waived forward Yura Movsisyan, according to an mlssoccer.com report on Friday.

RSL and Movsisyan have been trying to negotiate a buyout during the offseason and he has not been training with the team.

Real Salt Lake is still on the hook for the rest of his contract — about $4 million over the next two years — if he is not claimed by another team. Either way, RSL has freed up salary cap space to sign a new designated player.

Movsisyan has played two stints for the Claret and Cobalt. He scored 15 goals in 53 appearances in 2007-09 and 16 goals in 57 games in 2016-17. The last stint was as one of RSL's three designated players who do not count against Major League Soccer's salary cap.
