After earning her first collegiate victory at the GCU Invitational, UVU junior Carly Dehlin was named Golfer of the Week by the Western Athletic Conference.
Dehlin finished three rounds with a 3-over-par 219 (74-73-72—219) to place her in first for the tournament. She improved her score by one stroke from round to round, saving her best 18 holes for the final day of competition to finish strong and win the invitational. The victory marks the first individual win for Utah Valley of the season. Dehlin's strong play also led UVU to a second-place finish in the team standings of the GCU Invitational, just two strokes back from Portland State.
"I'm very proud of this team for opening their minds to some new ideas this year and trusting them enough to see the fruits of their work," said UVU head coach Dr. Sue Nyhus. "It was an awesome day for Carly's first collegiate win."
Dehlin birdied seven holes in the first competition of the spring season, including four through the final 18. The Draper, Utah native is currently on pace to break the Utah Valley school records for single-season scoring average and rounds of par or better.
The Wolverines and Dehlin will be in action next at the Entrada Classic in Saint George, Utah, which is hosted by in-state rival BYU. The tournament will take place on March 12-13, and consists of 54 holes.
