Dixie State’s women’s golf team could not make a move up the leaderboard on Tuesday as the Trailblazers finished 14th overall at the 2018 California Baptist Lancer Joust played at the par-72 Goose Creek Golf Club.
The Trailblazers (325-317) improved by eight shots in round two as they combined for a 29-over 317 to finish the two-day event at plus-66 642. CBU (294-297-591, +15) led wire-to-wire to win its own event by six shots over runner-up Cal State San Marcos (301-296-597, +21), followed by Academy of Art (306-297-603, +27) in third, Tarleton State (308-305-313, +37) in fourth and Northeastern State (307-311-618, +42) in fifth.
Junior Katie Ford (79-76) fired DSU’s low round of the event Tuesday with a 4-over 76 to finish tied for 22nd individually at plus-11 155, while freshman Kaitlyn Deeble (79-81) tied three others for 47th place at plus-16 160. Fellow freshman Cailyn Cardall (85-78) improved by seven shots on day two as she carded a 6-over 78 to finish tied for 59th at plus-19 163, followed by sophomore Ashley Fernandez (82-82-164, +20) who tied for 63rd place and junior Amalia Negrette (86-90-176, +32) who tied for 88th place.
Dixie State next travels to the Bay Area to play in the Cal State East Bay/Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout on March 5-6.
