Fresh off helping lead Dixie State to its sixth Pacific West Conference regular season title in 11 seasons, Trailblazer senior guard Brandon Simister was named the PacWest Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday.

Simister averaged 16.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.0 steals in DSU’s three wins last week. In addition, the senior combined to shoot 62.5 percent (15-of-24) in the three games, including a 7-of-17 (.411) effort from the perimeter, to go with a perfect 9-of-9 at the foul line.

The senior began last week on fire as he poured in a career-high 25 points on 7-of-9 shooting, which included tying DSU’s single-game record with six 3-pointers (6-of-7), in the Trailblazers’ 99-76 Senior Night victory over Holy Names on Feb. 19. Simister also collected four rebounds, three assists and two steals in the win.

Three nights later, in a road win at Biola, Simister was held to just five points, though he did dish out seven assists and grabbed two boards. He then bounced back in a big way last Saturday in DSU’s 76-65 PacWest title-clinching win at Point Loma in San Diego, as he led all scorers with 19 points on 6-of-7 from the floor with three 3-pointers.

Simister scored 13 points in the second half, including three clutch buckets that kept Dixie State in the lead or within one possession during a furious PLNU rally. He played in all 40 minutes and collected three rebounds, six assists and one steal. He also tied the DSU single season 3-point record with his 60th make of the year with nine minutes to play in the second half.

Dixie State is the top overall seed at the upcoming 2018 Pacific West Conference Tournament (opponent TBD), which will be held this Thursday through Saturday, March 1-3, at California Baptist's new Events Center in Riverside, California. The winner of the tournament will earn the PacWest's automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA West Regionals, which will be held March 8-10.
