CEDAR CITY — Southern Utah University's athletic department announced Monday afternoon that head football coach Demario Warren has signed a contract extension through the 2022 season.
Under his direction during the past two seasons, the T-Birds have compiled a 15-8 record, including a 9-3 overall mark this past year.
The Thunderbirds finished 7-1 in Big Sky Conference play last year and won the conference championship, the program's second such honor in the last three seasons.
The T-Birds also secured a berth in the second round of the FCS playoffs for the first time in school history.
Warren's tenure has been characterized by considerable success at home.
He has posted a 9-2 overall record at Eccles Coliseum, with the lone loss coming in the playoffs against rival Weber State.
The program's recent successes, particularly in 2017, earned Warren his share of plaudits at season's end as he was named the Co-Big Sky Coach of the Year, the AFCA Region 5 Coach of the Year and was a finalist for AFCA National Coach of the Year.
Warren has also found success on the recruiting trail, where the Thunderbirds most recently pulled in the No. 13-ranked class in the FCS by HERO Sports.
Southern Utah will open its 2018 football season against the University of North Alabama in Cedar City on Sept 1.
