Utah State men’s tennis senior Jaime Barajas was named the Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for matches played through Feb. 20, it was announced Wednesday by the conference office.

Overall, it is the first time this season and seventh in his career Barajas has earned MW Player of the Week honors.

Barajas, a native of Woodland Hills, California, posted a perfect 6-0 mark to help Utah State to a 3-0 record last week with a 4-1 win at BYU, a 5-1 home win against UC Irvine and a 5-0 home win against Montana State. Against BYU, Barajas and freshman Jose Carvajal won at the No. 1 doubles spot, 6-3. Barajas then posted a straight-sets win at No. 1 singles against No. 116 Sean Hill (6-1, 6-3). Against UC Irvine, Barajas and Carvajal dropped just one game in their 6-1 win at the No. 1 doubles spot. Barajas then posted another straight-set win at No. 1 singles (7-5, 6-2). And against Montana State, Barajas and Carvajal clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 (3) win at the No. 1 spot. Barajas then posted a straight-set win at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-3).

With his six wins last week, Barajas now ranks second all-time in school history in combined wins with 133.

No. 37 Utah State returns to the courts after a two-week hiatus traveling to Denver, Colorado, to take on Denver (3-3, 1-0 Summit League) on Monday, March 5, at 11 a.m. Utah State then travels to Tampa, Florida, to take on No. 46 Old Dominion (6-4, 0-0 Conference USA) on Friday, March 9; George Washington (0-11, 0-0 Atlantic 10) on Saturday, March 10, at 11 a.m. MT; and South Florida (2-6, 0-1 American) on Sunday, March 11, at 8 a.m.
