Dixie State junior Katie Ford was named Pacific West Conference Women's Golf Player of the Week for the second time this season on Thursday after picking up her first collegiate tournament victory earlier this week at the Point Loma Reach 2018 Invitational played in San Diego.
Ford (5-foot-8; St. George, Utah/Desert Hills HS/Utah Valley) tied for medalist honors to help lead the Trailblazers to a fourth-place team finish, which was the third top-five team showing of the season. She finished with a two-round total of 2-over 146, which included an opening round 1-under 71 that turned out to be the lone under-par round of the tournament.
Ford led the 80-player field in par-3 scoring (-1), and she finished second in par-4 scoring (+2) and tied for sixth in par-5 scoring (+1). In addition, she rolled in five birdies and penciled in 24 pars in 36 holes played.
Ford’s medalist win was her third top-10 finish of the season and her seventh collegiate top-10 finish overall. She also posted a runner-up showing at the DSU Fall Invitational this past October, an event the Trailblazers won, and she placed tied for ninth at the Cal State San Marcos Fall Classic later that October.
Dixie State returns to Southern California to play in the California Baptist Lancer Shootout on Feb. 26-27.
