Dixie State junior Katie Ford tied for medalist honors to help lead Dixie State’s women’s golf team to a fourth-place finish at the Point Loma-hosted Reach 2018 Invitational on Tuesday at the par-72, 6,040-yard Riverwalk Golf Course.
Ford (71-75) fired a final round 3-over 75 with one birdie to tie Cal State San Marcos sophomore Jaime Jacob (73-73) atop the leaderboard at plus-2 146 for the tournament. Ford entered the final round as the clubhouse leader after she posted the lone red number in the 80-player field during the two days with a 1-under 71 in Monday’s opening round.
Dixie State (308-327) began the day in third place overall, but it struggled in round two as the Trailblazers posted a 39-over 327 to finish at plus-59 635 for the championship. CSUSM (298-302-600, +24) led wire-to-wire to win the team title, while California Baptist (307-296-603, +27) finished three shots back to claim runner-up honors. Sonoma State (318-313-631, +55) vaulted over DSU to finish third and Victoria (327-318-645, +69) rounded out the top five.
In all, four Trailblazers finished in the top 30 on the leaderboard, including freshman Cailyn Cardall (80-82) in t-25th place at plus-18 162, while senior Cobair Collinsworth (79-84) tied for 27th place at plus-19 163 and freshman Kaitlynn Deeble wound up in a four-way tie for 29th at plus-20 164. In addition, junior Amalia Negrette (88-86) placed t-50th at plus-30 174.
Dixie State returns to Southern California to play in the California Baptist Lancer Shootout on Feb. 26-27.
