Real Salt Lake used a second-round pick — the 33rd overall selection — to take Creighton forward Ricky Lopez-Espin in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft on Friday.
The club also traded its first-round pick (10th overall) to the Chicago Fire in exchange for $85,000 in general allocation money.
Lopez-Espin scored 30 goals — including 12 goals as a senior — and had seven assists in 74 game appearances (61 starts) over four years at Creighton.
“It’s a childhood dream come true and I can’t be more thankful,” Lopez-Espin said in a press release. “I’m going to give everything I can to the club. They gave me the opportunity. I’m excited to win. I love winning and I look forward to playing in front of their passionate fans.”
RSL has three remaining picks in the concluding third (51st and 56th overall) and fourth (79th overall) rounds of the SuperDraft on Sunday.
