Utah State men’s tennis freshman Valdemar Holm was named the Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for matches played through Jan. 16, it was announced Wednesday by the conference office.

Overall, it is the first time this season and in his career Holm has earned MW Player of the Week honors.

Holm, a Malmo, Sweden native, posted a perfect 4-0 combined mark in singles and doubles last week to help Utah State to a pair of season-opening home wins against Southern Utah (7-0) and Idaho State (7-0). Against the Thunderbirds, Holm and senior Andrew Nakajima clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 victory at the first position. Holm went on to win his singles match at the No. 4 spot in straight sets (6-1, 6-2). Against the Bengals, Holm and Nakajima decided the doubles point at the first position with a 6-4 win. Holm then swept his singles opponent at the No. 3 spot (6-4, 6-1).

Utah State men’s tennis action continues on Sunday, Jan. 21, as the Aggies take on Utah in Salt Lake City at noon.
