No. 5 BYU men’s volleyball returns home this week for two matches against fellow 2017 NCAA Tournament participant Barton.

The Cougars are coming off a successful road trip last week, beating No. 14 Ball State and No. 1 Ohio State on their home courts.

Freshman opposite Gabi Garcia Fernandez was named the MPSF Offensive Player of the Week, as well as the AVCA Player of the Week, for his performance in those two matches.

BYU competes against Barton on Friday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m. MST and Saturday, Jan. 20, at 8 p.m. Both games are at the Smith Fieldhouse. The Cougars won the only matchup between the two schools in last year’s NCAA tournament, sweeping the Bulldogs in the play-in match.

Barton is 0-3 to start the season, facing tough competition against No. 15 Grand Canyon, No. 4 Hawai’i and Lindenwood. The Bulldogs finished the 2017 season with a 23-6 overall record, setting a program benchmark for wins in a single season and winning their first Conference Carolinas Championship.

Friday’s match will be televised live on BYUtv, while Saturday’s will be streamed live on Links to video streams and live stats can be found on the BYU men’s volleyball schedule page.
