Sano Gasana (20) of the Layton Christian Academy Eagles beats everyone down the floor for the layup. The Eagles from Layton Christian upset 5A Roy Royals 67-59, Friday Dec. 8, 2017.

The game featured high tempo offensives, tight defensives, and physical play by both teams.  In the end Layton Christian secured the 67-59 victory over a talented Roy squad.

The Eagles jumped to an early 1st quarter lead and led 20-17 at the first break, but the Royals led at the half 31-26. The Eagles quickly made up the deficit early on the third quarter with stifling full court defense, fast break offense, and a deep bench.

The Eagles full-court pressure, a staple of a Bobby Porter team, shut down the Royal offense, and at the 3rd quarter break the Eagles enjoyed a 52-43 lead.

A late fourth quarter run by the Royals came up short.

LCA's Lino Saez scored 20 points and grabbed 17 boards, Sano Gasana added 14 points and seven assists. Alex Holley had 14 while Alex Lamb and Kobe Schriver each scored 12 points to lead Roy in the losing effort.
