Shroud of Turin conference Dec. 9

MURRAY — The Shroud of Turin Conference 2017 will be Saturday, Dec. 9, 9 a.m. to noon, at Calvary Salt Lake, 460 W. Century Drive. Russ Breault, president of the Shroud of Turin Education Project, will be at the event, according to organizers. It’s free and open to the public.

Diwali Festival of Lights Dec. 9 at Salt Lake Library

SALT LAKE CITY — Hindu Festival of Lights celebration, or Diwali, is Saturday, Dec. 9, 2-4:30 p.m., at the Salt Lake Main Library’s auditorium, 210 E. 400 South.

The celebration includes Indian music and dance performances, presentations and a ceremonial lighting of diyas — lamps to ward off darkness and ignorance and to symbolize the victory of good over evil, according to information from organizers.

The event is free and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Food will be served in the conference rooms in the Lower Urban Room.

The festival is sponsored by the Sri Ganesha Hindu Temple of Utah, the India Cultural Center, Namaste Nanglo Groceries and Uma and Ashok Khandkar.

Festival of the Kings to Benefit Puerto Rico

COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — “Fiesta de los Reyes,” or A Puerto Rican Festival of the Kings, to benefit Hurricane Maria victims, will be Friday, Dec. 15, 7:30 p.m., at South Valley Unitarian Universalist Society, 6876 S. Highland Drive. Performers include South Valley Musicians and Musica y Danza Borinqueña de Utah, a Puerto Rican music and dance performance team, according to information from organizers.

All donations will be sent to The Hurricane Maria Community Recovery Fund.

Speaker to explore Jesus, Muhammad

WEST VALLEY CITY — Dr. Daniel J. Hummel will speak on “Jesus & Muhammad: Commonalities of Two Great Religions” on Friday, Dec. 29, at 5 p.m. at the Khadeeja Islamic Center, 1019 W. Parkway Ave., West Valley City, according to information from the church.

'World Healing Meditation’ Dec. 31

SALT LAKE CITY — A morning “Imagine Peace: A World Healing Meditation” will be at 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 31, at Center for Spiritual Living, Salt Lake, 332 Bugatti Ave. The event is to celebrate peace around the globe, according to information from organizers.

CHURCH SERVICES

Book of Jonah topic at RMBC Sunday

BRIGHAM CITY — Rocky Mountain Bible Church, 659 N. Main, will host worship service Sunday at 10 a.m. Lee Peltier, pastoral ministry intern at Rocky Mountain Bible Church, will share a message from the book of Jonah, according to information from the church. Peltier has an undergraduate degree in history and a master’s in theology. He and his wife, Deb, will be serving at RMBC for at least one year.

Sunday School for adults and children will meet after worship service, from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The adult class will continue the discussion presented in worship service.

Acts message at CrossPoint’s services

PROVO — CrossPoint Church will host two worship services Sunday; the service’s message focuses on Acts 3:1-10 and continues the Upside Down series, according to information from the church.
