PROVO — BYU announced Thursday it has scheduled future football games with Houston, Georgia Southern and Hawaii.
BYU will host Houston of the American Athletic Conference in Provo on Oct. 17, 2020, and the two teams will play at John O’Quinn Field at Texas Dow Employees Credit Union (TDECU) Stadium in Houston on Oct. 7, 2023.
BYU leads the series, 2-0, with victories in 2013 and 2014.
Houston is coached by former Texas quarterback Major Applewhite, who just finished his first season at the helm.
BYU will face Georgia Southern of the Sun Belt Conference for the first time in Statesboro, Georgia, on Nov. 20, 2021. The Eagles will play the Cougars in Provo on Oct. 12, 2024.
Georgia Southern is a former FCS power that now plays on the FBS level. The Eagles became only the third program in NCAA history to win a conference title in their first FBS season. They accomplished that feat with an unbeaten conference mark, going 8-0 in their inaugural Sun Belt schedule, and finished with a 9-3 mark overall in 2014.
BYU beat Hawaii, 30-20, last Saturday in the season finale for both programs in Honolulu. The Rainbow Warriors will visit Provo next fall.
The two teams have added a home-and-home series with games on Sept. 14, 2024, in Provo and Sept. 6, 2025, in Honolulu.
BYU leads the all-time series with Hawaii, 22-8. The Cougars are 9-0 against the Rainbow Warriors in Provo and 13-8 at Hawaii.
From 1979 to 1999 the Cougars and Rainbow Warriors played regularly as members of the Western Athletic Conference.
Kickoff times and broadcast plans for the announced games will be determined at a later date.
