"WHEN LIFE GETS HARD, REMEMBER YOU ARE LOVED," by Kathryn Jenkins Gordon, Covenant Communications, $9.99, 88 pages (nf)

Mortality is a "dicey place," writes Kathryn Jenkins Gordon, adding that no one need feel abandoned in the midst of it.

Gordon's new book, "You Are Loved," shares assurances that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love every person, that the Atonement is available to all, and that peace and happiness can be attained and maintained through faith and mindfulness.

"No matter what you're called on to experience in this life," Gordon writes, "you can know one thing for certain: Your Heavenly Father and your Savior, Jesus Christ, love you and know you personally. They are keenly aware of your trials and difficulties in this life. … Their perfect love for you is the one thing on which you can always rely."

The book is a quick read at only 88 pages but packs plenty to ponder as Gordon examines several facets of how God's love can sustain women through difficult trials. Topics include "Gaining Relief from Adversity," "Believing Your Prayers Will Be Answered," "Realizing the Savior's Atonement Is for You," "Discovering the Miracle of Forgiveness," "Finding Peace and Comfort," "Believing in the Promise," "Facing Life When You Are Afraid" and "Being an Instrument in His Hands."

Gordon draws heavily on the scriptures and words of modern-day prophets and apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but she also weaves in a few of her own insights gleaned from challenges she's faced, including divorce, death of a child, severe health challenges and job loss, among others. Her cheery tone through most of the book is encouraging, but her candid approach in the last chapter is particularly impactful.

Gordon is the managing editor at Covenant Communications and has written several other books on LDS topics.
