Both Utah and Utah State are bowl eligible this season.

Both Utah and Utah State are bowl eligible, but both will have to wait until after next week's games until find out where and who they will play. However, it's not a given that the Aggies will go bowling since there are projected to be more bowl-eligible teams than available slots.

Here's a look at where the Utes and Aggies could play this postseason:

Utah Utes

While there aren't enough bowl tie-ins in the Pac-12 for the Utes, it's almost certain that they'll pick up a bid somewhere. That's why there's significant variation on where experts think Utah will spend its postseason.

Texas Bowl

Wednesday, Dec. 27, 7:00 pm MST, NRG Stadium, Houston, Texas

Publications predicting this bowl: CBS, SI, SB Nation

Projected opponents: Kansas State (7-5, 5-4 Big 12), Texas (6-6, 5-4 Big 12)

Cactus Bowl

Tuesday, Dec. 26, 8:00 pm MST, Chase Field, Phoenix, Arizona

Publications predicting this bowl: Bleacher Report, Sporting News, Yahoo

Projected opponents: Iowa State (7-5, 5-4 Big 12), West Virginia (7-5, 5-4 Big 12)

Birmingham Bowl

Saturday, Dec. 23, 10:00 am MST, Legion Field, Birmingham, Alabama

Publications predicting this bowl: ESPN (Kyle Bonagura)

Projected opponent: Houston (7-4, 5-3 American)

Walk-On's Independence Bowl

Wednesday, Dec. 27, 11:30 am MST, Independence Stadium, Shreveport, Louisiana

Publications predicting this bowl: ESPN (David Hale)

Projected opponent: Boston College (7-5, 4-4 ACC)

Analysis: It appears that the Utes will be facing another Power 5 opponent with six or seven wins, and there are some intriguing matchups here. The majority of projected opponents come from the wild Big 12, which should be a good challenge for Utah's defense.

Utah State Aggies

Utah State is in serious danger of being left out of bowl season despite being bowl eligible as there simply aren't enough bowls to fit all the teams with 6-6 records or better. ESPN's David Hale, Bleacher Reports' Kerry Miller and SB Nation's Jason Kirk do not have the Aggies going to a bowl game.

Foster Farms Bowl

Wednesday, Dec. 27, 6:30 pm MST, Levi's Stadium, Santa Clara, California

Publications predicting this bowl: CBS, ESPN (Kyle Bonagura)

Projected opponents: Washington State (9-3, 6-3 Pac-12)

Famous Idaho Potato Bowl

Friday, Dec. 22, 2:00 pm MST, Lyle Field at Albertsons Stadium, Boise, Idaho

Publications predicting this bowl: Sporting News, Yahoo

Projected opponents: Western Michigan (6-6, 4-4 MAC)

Gildan New Mexico Bowl

Saturday, Dec. 16, 2:30 pm MST, Branch Field at Dreamstyle Stadium, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Publications predicting this bowl: SI

Projected opponents: UTSA (6-5, 3-5 C-USA)

Analysis: Utah State will be on pins and needles until the bowl games are announced. If the Aggies indeed go bowling, there are some exciting possible opponents, especially the high-flying Cougars of Washington State. Here's hoping Utah State will hear its name called during the bowl selection show.
