The stakes

For Colorado … Bowl eligibility and Rocky Mountain bragging rights. Same as the Utes.

For Utah ... Bowl eligibility and Rocky Mountain bragging rights. Same as the Buffaloes.

The trends

For Colorado … The Buffaloes ended a four-game losing streak to the Utes with a 27-22 victory last November in Boulder.

For Utah ... Like Colorado, the Utes enter this year’s season finale with two consecutive losses. Three would make for an extra long offseason.

The crystal ball

For Colorado … Running back Phillip Lindsay could be a one-man wrecking crew. If he’s able to be effective, the Utes could be in big trouble.

For Utah ... The Utes need key contributions in all three phases to become bowl eligible for the fourth consecutive season. Pride could be a factor.

Player to watch

PHILLIP LINDSAY, Colorado running back: The senior is No. 2 in all-purpose yardage in the Pac-12, trailing only Stanford star Bryce Love.

Key matchup

UTAH AWARDS FINALISTS VS. COLORADO: Contributions from kicker Matt Gay (Lou Groza finalist) and punter Mitch Wishnowsky (Ray Guy finalist) could certainly be the difference on Saturday.

Quotable

“We are both fighting for a bowl game, obviously. We have them at our place. It is good to be in front of that Rice-Eccles crowd one more time.”

— Utah coach Kyle Whittingham

"We want to go to Utah and we want to win so we can get bowl eligible. That's the No. 1 goal and that's on everyone's mind.”

— Colorado cornerback Isaiah Oliver (Boulder Daily Camera)

Next up

Both teams are playing for a .500 season and six wins for bowl eligibility.
