With a National Women's Soccer League coming from Kansas City to Salt Lake City, here's a look at the women on the roster. There are some great stars, including several players who have significant World Cup and Olympic experience.
Becky Sauerbrunn, defender
Saunderbrunn's resume is almost unbeatable in women's soccer. She's a staple of the US Olympic and World Cup teams, and played every minute of the USWNT's run to a World Cup title in 2015. Saunderbrunn was one of two captains for the 2016 US Olympic women's soccer team and was key in the Americans' run to the quarterfinals. She was the team captain in Kansas City and will likely be the leader in Salt Lake as well. Saunderbrunn was selected to the NWSL Best XI all five seasons in the league's existence and is the only player to receive that honor.
Sydney Leroux, forward
Leroux is another player with experience on the USWNT in 2015 as she played 181 minutes in four matches, including two that she started. She had an assist in the USA's win over Australia. Leroux is married to English soccer player Dom Dwyer and just gave birth to her first son Cassius Cruz Dwyer last September. Leroux led FC Kansas City with six goals in 2017.
Amy Rodriguez, forward
Rodriguez was the third member on the roster that participated in the World Cup championship team with 118 minutes across two games. She has made the game-winning goal in not just one but two NWSL Championships in 2014 and 2015. She missed the past two seasons due to pregnancy and due to a knee injury.
Desiree Scott, midfielder
Scott is a member of Canada women's national soccer team and has two Olympic bronze medals in 2012 and 2016. Her play in the 2012 Olympics earned her the nickname "The Destroyer".
Nicole Barnhart, goalkeeper
Barnhart has experience on the US national team and got some significant playing time when Hope Solo was out with an injury back in 2013. Barnhart also has coaching experience as a volunteer with her Alma mater of Stanford.
Shea Groom, forward
Groom scored eight goals in 2016 and five goals in 2017. She's been part of the U-23 US team at the 2015 La Manga Tournament.
Maegan Kelly, forward
Kelly also scored five goals last season for FC Kansas City. She's played for both the US and Canada over her young career.
Brittany Taylor, defender
Taylor was an NWSL Best IX selection back in 2013. Last season she became only the third player in the league to reach 100 caps.
Christina Gibbons, defender
Gibbons was the No. 5 overall pick in the NWSL college draft out of Duke. She was loaned to the Melbourne Victory this October.
Lo'eau LaBonta, midfielder
LaBonta is another player gaining experience while on loan to Australia as she's playing for the Western Sydney Wanderers.
Alex Arlitt, defender
Arlitt was also loaned to Western Sydney but missed much of last season due to injury.
Yael Averbuch, midfielder
Averbuch is a former captain of the U-23 team in 2008 and is a league veteran.
Katie Bowen, defender
Bowen is a native New Zealander and was the youngest player to represent her country on the U-17 team at the age of 14 back in 2008. She's had experience representing her country at the 2011 and 2015 World Cup.
Caroline Flynn, midfielder
Flynn is another player fairly fresh out of college as she finished her career at Nebraska in 2016.
Mandy Laddish, midfielder
Laddish has been with Kansas City since graduating from Notre Dame back in 2013.
Sydney Miramontez, defender
Miramontez just signed with Kansas City last October. Here's a great story from the Kansas City Star on her journey.
Becca Morris, defender
Morris started 17 of 19 games for Kansas City last season and played 1,552 minutes.
Alexa Newfield, midfielder
Newfield scored her first two goals of her career last season for Kansas City.
Catherine Parkhill, goalkeeper
Parkhill is the backup goalkeeper who played for Minnesota in college.
Brittany Ratcliffe, forward
Ratcliffe scored one goal in 22 games played last season for Kansas City.
Brianne Reed, defender
Reed played in seven games for 441 minutes last season.
Erika Tymrak, midfielder
Tymark made two goals and one assist in 12 games played last season.
