Utah State women's basketball (1-2) opens a month-long road trip this week as it plays at Southern Utah (0-3) on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 5 p.m.
Tuesday's game will be streamed online live and for free on Pluto.tv. Live stats and play-by-play information will be available through StatBroadcast, while updates will also be provided through the team’s social media outlets. Utah State women’s basketball games are also broadcast on the radio on 92.3 KBLU, with Jaden Johnson on the call. The games will be streamed on the air and online. Southern Utah has started the season with a 0-3 record, falling on the road at BYU (75-67) and San Diego (72-59) and to Binghamton (72-66) at home.
Last season, Southern Utah posted a 7-23 record, going 2-17 in Big Sky play. The Thunderbirds return three starters and five letterwinners from a year ago while adding four players to the team. Freshman guard Natalie Sanchez and junior guard Breanu Reid are leading the SUU offense, averaging 10.7 points per game each. Redshirt sophomore guard Rebecca Cardenas is averaging a team-high 5.7 rebounds per game. For the year, Southern Utah is shooting 35.0 percent (70-of-200) from the field, 39.3 percent (24-of-61) from the 3-point line and 63.6 percent (28-of-44) from the free-throw line. Chris Boettcher is in his third season as the head coach at Southern Utah, where he has an overall record of 24-60.
Utah State leads the all-time series with Southern Utah, 5-3. The Thunderbirds hold the advantage in games played in Logan, but the Aggies are 3-0 in games played in Cedar City. Last season, Southern Utah won the meeting in a 70-54 win in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
Sophomore guard Olivia West is the leading scorer for the Aggies, averaging 19.0 points per game, while sophomore guard/forward Shannon Dufficy is the top rebounder, averaging 10.0 boards per game. As a team, Utah State is shooting 44.2 percent (84-of-190) from the field, 35.4 percent (17-of-48) from the 3-point line and 64.5 percent (40-of-62) from the free-throw line.
