Dixie State’s women’s volleyball team closed its 2017 season on a sour note as the Trailblazers dropped their final Pacific West Conference match in a 3-0 loss at Biola (18-25, 14-25, 13-25) on Saturday night inside Chase Gymnasium.
The Trailblazers (13-15, 11-9 PacWest) were held to a .011 hitting percentage, connecting for just 24 total kills against 23 hitting errors. Junior right side hitter Shannon Sorensen led DSU with six kills, while senior Brette Barney tallied five kills in her final match in a Trailblazer uniform. Freshman Jordyn Nelson assisted on 14 of the Trailblazers’ kills, and junior libero Sid Brandon finished with a match-high 13 digs.
Biola (22-7, 15-5 PacWest) hit .333 for the match, with Sabrina Winslow accounting for 15 of the Eagles’ 45 kills.
Dixie State finished its 11 years of PacWest play with a 117-75 (.609) league record and one conference title, which came in 2015. DSU had also advanced to three NCAA West Regionals during that span, reaching the regional final in 2014. DSU will move on to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference for the 2018 season and beyond, which is part of the NCAA South Central region.
