Admit it. The thought of actually flying an X-Wing or sitting at the controls of a Tie fighter is super exciting. The board game Star Wars X-Wing by Fantasy Flight Games puts gamers in control of the most advanced starships in the galaxy. Will you choose the light or dark side?
The core set of Star Wars X-wing comes with all of the rules, counters and models needed to play several scenarios using the starships of the Star Wars universe. Additional packs can be added to increase the depth, excitement and replayability of the game too. Ever heard of the Millennium Falcon?
Players use a squad point purchasing system to choose which ships will fight on their side after selecting a scenario to play. Winning can be accomplished not only by destroying an opponent's ships but also by trying to complete mission objectives.
The ship-to-ship combat is thrilling as each model comes with different stats and cards that allow one to customize, upgrade and develop the perfect weapon. Maneuvering is tricky and requires proper planning as all moves are revealed and no one knows exactly what will happen round after round. Individual pilots can also be selected so one can fly an X-wing with Luke Skywalker at the controls.
The ship miniatures are prepainted and nicely detailed. When a set of ships occupy the table, the scene is captivating. Players can put together a small two-ship engagement or a large battle between multiple ships.
Star Wars X-wing has become so popular that multiple fan sites have gone up discussing the strategies and details of the game. An excellent fan-made campaign is available free of charge called Heroes of the Aturi Cluster that strings together multiple scenarios into a well-written campaign.
