Dixie State senior right side hitter Brette Barney was named to the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 Division II Women’s Volleyball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. Barney will now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in later this month.
Barney, who carries a 3.90 GPA in dental hygiene, has played in all 26 matches with 23 starts this season and is currently fifth on the team in kills with 133. She is also fourth in total blocks (51) and has collected 45 digs defensively.
Barney heads into her final two matches in a Trailblazer uniform this weekend ranked eighth in program history in total blocks (153). She is a three-time Pacific West Conference Academic all-conference selection and was an honorable mention all-PacWest pick in 2015.
The Academic All-District Women’s Volleyball Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada, with District 8 including the Pacific West, California Collegiate and Great Northwest Athletic conferences.
