Weber State senior tight end Andrew Vollert was named to the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District VIII Football Team.
Vollert is one of 26 Division I players from the eight Western states in District VIII to earn the honor. The Academic All-District team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Student-athletes must have a minimum 3.30 GPA and outstanding athlete performances to be nominated. The team is voted on by CoSIDA members throughout the district. Vollert is one of five players from a school in Utah and one of five from a school in the Big Sky Conference to make the All-District team.
He will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, with first and second-team Academic All-America honorees to be announced in December. He is the first Wildcat to earn Academic All-District honors since 2012.
Vollert is an All-American tight end for the Wildcats out of San Mateo, California. He is serving as a team captain this season and has led the Wildcats to a top-10 national ranking and an 8-2 overall record and a 6-1 mark in Big Sky play heading into the regular season finale. Through 10 games this season, Vollert leads the Wildcats with 41 catches for 519 yards and three touchdowns.
In his two seasons at Weber State, Vollert has 103 catches for 1,359 yards and 10 touchdowns. He ranks 24th in WSU history in career receptions. He earned All-American honors as a junior in 2016 and was also named the Big Sky Newcomer of the Year.
Vollert is majoring in communications at Weber State.
