Utah State football players Baron Gajkowski and Jacoby Wildman earned College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSiDA) first-team Academic All-District VIII honors, it was announced Thursday.

Gajkowski, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound safety from Alpine, Utah (Lone Peak HS), has played in all 10 games for Utah State this season, with one start, and ranks fifth on the team with 42 tackles, which includes 1.0 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss. He has also recorded one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one pass breakup and one quarterback hurry on the season.

Wildman, a 6-2, 265-pound defensive end from Logan, Utah (Logan HS), has played in all 10 games for Utah State, making four starts, and ranks sixth on the team and first among defensive linemen with 38 tackles, which includes 1.0 sacks and 1.5 tackles for loss. He also has two quarterback hurries and one fumble recovery on the season.

Both players are now eligible to earn Academic All-America honors as Gajkowski is majoring in finance and has a 3.63 GPA, while Wildman is majoring in sociology and has a 3.65 GPA and earned academic all-Mountain West honors in 2016.

District VIII consists of schools from Arizona, California, Hawai'i, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

Utah State (5-5, 3-3 MW) hosts Hawai’i (3-7, 1-6 MW) this Saturday at 1 p.m. With a win against the Rainbow Warriors, USU will become bowl eligible for the sixth time in the past seven seasons. Prior to the game, Utah State will honor its senior class that consists of 18 players.
