Dixie State senior forward Darian Murdock was voted the 2017 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) West Region Women’s Soccer Player of the Year on Wednesday, while she and fellow senior Montana Hadley each earned first-team all-Region honors. The duo will now advance to the national ballot for D2CCA All-America consideration.
Murdock, who collected her second-straight Pacific West Conference Player of the Year award earlier this month, finished the regular season ranked in the top 10 nationally in five statistical categories overall, including single-season school records for goals scored (19), game-winning goals (eight) and points (42). In all, Murdock’s name is etched atop five single-season statistical categories this year, including becoming the first player in program history to register three hat tricks in one season, and in all three instances she was named PacWest Player of the Week.
Murdock scored at least one goal in seven of her last nine starts, and in 11 of 18 matches overall with five multi-goal outings, while DSU played to a 10-1-0 record when she found the back of the net. She ended her four years at Dixie State as the program’s career leader in game-winning goals (16) and will finish in the top three in career goals scored (42), career points (94), career shots (204) and career shots on goal (104).
Hadley, who was also named 2017 PacWest Defender of the Year and earned first-team all-conference honors, anchored a Trailblazer defensive unit that collected seven shutout wins in 2017 and has surrendered just 19 goals in 18 matches (1.04 GAA), while it limited opponents to 5.1 shots per goal a game.
On the offensive side, Hadley tallied eight total points in her last 11 games played to close out the year and finished tied for second on the team in assists (six) to go with two goals. She wrapped up her four-year career fourth in career assists (15) and second in career starts (71), having started in every DSU game played in that span.
Dixie State wrapped up its 2017 regular season with a 12-6-0 overall record and finished in a tie for sixth place in the PacWest standings at 8-5-0 (24 points).
In all, 13 players were voted to the D2CCA All-West Region First Team, and each will now be included on the All-America ballot. The 2016 D2CCA All-America Team will be announced on Nov. 30.
The annual regional postseason awards program, sponsored by the D2CCA, is voted on by the region’s sports information directors. In total, 14 different West Region institutions featured at least one All-Region player this season.
The D2CCA encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
