THE STAKES

For UNLV ... The Rebels need two wins to become bowl eligible. UNLV has played in just two bowl games since 2000, including one in 2014.

For BYU ... The Cougars aren’t going bowling this December. It’s all about finishing the season with some positive momentum and developing for the future.

THE TRENDS

For UNLV ... The Rebels have won two consecutive games for the first time in two seasons after defeating Fresno State and Hawaii in back-to-back weeks.

For BYU ... The Cougars are 8-0 all-time against UNLV at Sam Boyd Stadium.

THE EDGE

UNLV will win if ... The Rebels are able to establish a dominant run game. UNLV is ranked No. 13 in the country in rushing offense, averaging 252 yards per game on the ground.

BYU will win if ... The Cougars avoid turnovers and mistakes and are efficient on third down and in the red zone.

PLAYER TO WATCH

Johnny Stanton, UNLV quarterback. The senior has completed 35 of 55 passes for 399 yards and has rushed 23 times for 65 yards. Stanton has been a catalyst for the Rebels during their two-game winning streak.

KEY MATCHUP

BYU's quarterback vs. UNLV’s secondary: The Cougars could start Beau Hoge, Joe Critchlow or Kody Wilstead at QB. It would be the first career start for either Critchlow or Wilstead, who are both freshmen. The Rebels give up an average of 242 yards per game through the air.

QUOTABLE

“We just kept coaching. We stayed consistent with the messaging. I think we’ve just grown up and matured, and at the end of the year for the first time, we’re actually becoming a better football team as we come to the close.” — UNLV coach Tony Sanchez

“The only thing that matters right now is winning this next game.” — BYU coach Kalani Sitake
