There are two important times to eat your Halloween candy.
Time Health spoke with experts about the best times to eat candy, since today is Halloween and there will be candy around everywhere from now until the Christmas season is over.
Christy Brissette, a dietitian in Toronto, told Time Health that it’s important to eat protein or healthy fats and fibers before eating candy.
The other best time to eat candy: after a workout.
“After a workout, your cells are basically looking to replenish themselves,” Brissette told Time Health. Working out will burn your glucose, and “you can quickly replace that by having more of a fast-absorbing sugar. You want to have that together with some protein that’s going to help rebuild and repair any muscle tearing that happened during the exercise.”
