Dixie State’s women’s golf team closed the fall portion of its 2017-18 schedule with a tied for third place finish at the 2017 Cal State San Marcos Fall Classic on Tuesday at Twin Oaks Golf Course.
DSU (304-309) opened the day tied for third, and in an up-and-down final round the Trailblazers wound up right where they started after combining to shoot a 21-over 309 for a two-round total of plus-37 613. The host Cougars claimed the top two spots, with the “B” team (293-301-594, +18) besting their “A” team (304-301-605, +29) by 11 strokes to win the tournament title. Sonoma State (301-312-613, +37) tied DSU for third, followed by Cal State East Bay (312-302-614, +38) in fifth and Arkansas-Fort Smith (312-316-628, +52) in sixth.
Four Trailblazers finished in the top 20 on the leaderboard, led by junior Katie Ford (74-77) who recorded her second-straight top-10 showing at plus-7 151 to place tied for ninth overall. Senior Cobair Collinsworth (73-81) and freshman Cailyn Cardall (76-78) tied for 16th at plus-10 154, while freshman Kaitlynn Deeble (82-73) rolled in three birdies Tuesday to card DSU’s best round of the day with a 1-over 73 to finish tied for 18th at plus-11 155 and sophomore Ashley Fernandez (81-81) tied for 36th at plus-18 162.
Dixie State opens the 2018 spring schedule at the Point Loma Reach 2018 Invitational on Feb. 5-6, at the Riverwalk Golf Course in San Diego, California.
