After much thought, I am withdrawing my candidacy for Utah's 4th Congressional District to support Mayor Ben McAdams. His experience as mayor of Salt Lake County, where he already represents 85 percent of the district, and as a former state senator make him the strongest candidate to defeat Mia Love and get the 4th District back into Democratic hands. By withdrawing, I hope to be a force in uniting the Democratic Party behind a very viable candidate. I appreciate the support so many have given to me since I declared in March. Campaigning has been a wonderful experience where I've made many new friends, including the other two candidates vying to represent District 4, Darlene McDonald and Tom Taylor. Participating in causes I care deeply about with awe-inspiring activists has been a highlight. While I'm no longer running for Congress, I am not going away. I will remain an active Democrat and do what I can to bring balanced political representation to Utah. I encourage voters in District 4 — Democrats, independents and Republicans who are dismayed by the current national dialogue — to get involved and vote for Ben McAdams.
