Dixie State redshirt sophomore Blake Barney was named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week on Monday for his performance in the Trailblazers 54-28 win over Adams State.
Barney ignited an offensive explosion vs. the Grizzlies in his first start of the season, leading the Trailblazers to a season-high 620 yards (third-most in DSU’s NCAA Division II era) of total offense. Barney accounted for 350 yards and five touchdowns in Saturday’s victory, completing 10-of-15 passes for a career-high 204 yards and three touchdowns, and he added another 146 yards rushing and two more touchdowns on 19 carries.
The award marks the second RMAC weekly award for the Trailblazers during the 2017 season and the first offensive weekly award since joining the RMAC as a football affiliate member in 2016. Additionally, the award marks Barney’s first weekly award since being named GNAC Player of the Week on November 2, 2015.
The Trailblazers host No. 24 Colorado State-Pueblo on Saturday at 1 p.m., in the 2017 home finale. The game will serve as the team's Senior Day, as well as Military Appreciation Day.
