Utah State men's tennis went 5-3 in singles and 2-1 in doubles on its second day at the Arizona Fall Hidden Dual on Saturday.
In singles, the Aggie netters faced opponents from Grand Canyon. Senior Jaime Barajas defeated Mathieu Rajaonah, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5). Freshman Jose Carvajal had a 6-4, 7-6 victory over Lorenzo Fucile. Freshman Valdemar Holm came from a set behind after losing the first, 4-6, but did not drop a game in the second to win 6-0. Holm took the win after a 6-2, third-set victory over Leo Andreolli. Senior Andrew Nakajima followed suit, losing the first set, 4-6, but was perfect in the second and won the third, 6-0, 6-4, over Arizona's Shoti Meparidze. Sophomore Sergiu Bucur also faced Meparidze, winning 6-3, 6-7, 7-6 (7-5).
Also in singles against Grand Canyon, freshman Addy Vashistha lost to Valentin Lang, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Freshman Felipe Acosta lost 6-2, 6-4 to Freddie Grant. Junior Austin Bass rounded out the singles results, losing 6-3, 6-4 to Lucas Grego.
In doubles, USU faced netters from Arizona. Barajas and Carvajal defeated Alejandro Reguant and Jonas Maier, a former Aggie, 6-4. Vashistha and Acosta won 6-2 against Trent Botha and Andres Reyes. Nakajima and Holm lost 6-4 to Igor Karpovets and Carlos Hassey.
