Dixie State’s men’s golf team picked up its first team title of the 2017-18 season after heavy rain on the Big Island led to the cancellation of the final round of the DSU-hosted Island Invitational on Tuesday at the Waikoloa Kings’ Course.

The Trailblazers held the overnight lead at minus-2 574 after an opening round 3-under 285, which was followed by a second round 1-over 289 on Monday. DSU won by five strokes over second-place Wilmington (295-284-579, +3), followed by fellow Pacific West Conference members Hawai’i Hilo (295-294-589, +13) in third, Hawai’i Pacific (305-304-609, +33) in fourth and Notre Dame de Namur (313-305-618, +42) in fifth.

Sophomore Jayce Frampton picked up his first collegiate tournament win as he fired consecutive rounds of 2-under 70 on Monday to earn medalist honors at minus-4 140. Freshman Spencer Wallace tied for runner-up honors as he finished two shots back at minus-2 after he carded consecutive 1-under 71s. Junior Nicklaus Britt (+1 145) also picked up his first top-five individual finish of the season after he posted rounds of 71 and 2-over 74, followed by freshman Landon Anderson (75-74) who tied for 12th at 5-over 149 and senior Dalton Stanger (73-78) who tied for 16th at 6-over 151.

Dixie State returns to action this Friday and Saturday at the Hawai’i Hilo-hosted Dennis Rose Intercollegiate at the Waikoloa Beach Course.
