Recently Salt Lake City has decided to change Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day. A local TV station interviewed an individual, and he stated that Columbus wanted to control the natives that he had found. Let's get the facts straight. He wanted to find a new trade route and had nothing to do with the native people that he had found. He did not want to oppress the people. He provided the way for others to come. He had no interest in doing any harm to the people. When one elevates a race above another race, or elevates an ideal or value above another, one becomes an oppressor.

We need to be tolerant of others and accept all with differing opinions. America is a melting pot of many nations and ideas. If we are tolerant of others and allow them to have their beliefs, we would be a better nation.
