CNN has decided to fight fake news with an apple.
The cable news station released a new commercial this week with the slogan “Facts First.” The commercial shows a picture of an apple, with a narrator saying that the apple could be a banana.
“This is an apple,” the narrator said. “Some people might try to tell you that it’s a banana. They might scream ‘banana, banana, banana,’ over and over and over again. They might put ‘banana’ in all caps. You might even start to believe that this is a banana.
"But it’s not,” the narrator said. “This is an apple.”

Allison Gollust, CNN Worldwide’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer, told Variety in an interview that the cable news station wants to join the conversation on the media because of how relevant the brand is today.
"There’s a conversation happening around journalism and media and the First Amendment,” she said. “It’s happening right now. We felt compelled to participate in that conversation with a brand campaign that reminds people who we are and what we do and why we do it.”
A Pew Research Center study from just after the election found that 64 percent of Americans believe fake news stories cause confusion, with 23 percent saying they’ve shared the stories themselves.
In the same study, 45 percent of Americans said the government, politicians and elected officials “bear a great deal of responsibility” for preventing fake news from gaining popularity.
