Utah State senior quarterback Kent Myers gets excited during a game.

Utah State quarterback Kent Myers has earned honorable mention honors for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week for the second week of the college football season.

It is the first time this year and first time in Myers’ career that he has received an honorable mention honor from the organization.

However, prior to the start of the 2016 season, Myers was one of 41 players from eight conferences named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List.

Earlier this week, Myers was tabbed the American First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Sept. 10.

The senior from Rowlett, Texas, accounted for a career-high 408 yards of total offense in just more than one half of football in Utah State’s dominating 51-13 home win against Idaho State last Thursday night on Merlin Olsen Field at Maverik Stadium.

Myers completed 24-of-26 passes for 323 yards and two touchdowns, and he carried the ball eight times for 85 yards and two more scores on runs of 23 and 36 yards, respectively. Myers’ 323 passing yards are the third-most in his career, while his 92.3 completion percentage is the second-highest in school history for a single game, trailing his own performance against Hawai’i in 2014 as a freshman as he completed 14-of-15 passes (.933).

During the first half of play against the Bengals, Myers orchestrated an offense that produced 392 total yards as the Aggies scored on five of their six possessions. When the dust had finally settled, Utah State took a 38-6 lead into the halftime break.

All five of the Aggies’ touchdown drives during the first 30 minutes of play were at least 77 yards long, including four that were at least 80 yards long.

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was named the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week after leading the Sooners to a 31-16 win at then-No. 2 Ohio State last Saturday night. He completed 27-of-35 passes for 386 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. It was the Buckeyes’ largest margin of defeat at home since 1999.

Other Week 2 honorable mentions included SMU junior quarterback Ben Hicks, Alabama sophomore quarterback Jalen Hurts, SMU junior wide receiver Courtland Sutton, UNLV junior running back Lexington Thomas and Texas junior running back Chris Warren III.

Myers and the Aggies (1-1) hit the road for the second time this season when they play at Wake Forest (2-0) on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m. MT. The game will be televised on the ACC Network. Utah State is 1-0 all-time against the Demon Deacons.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year college.
