“America’s Got Talent,” Christina Perri and Ella Henderson all sent their love to Evie Clair and her family after the 13-year-old posted on social media about her father's death. Clair's father, Amos Abplanalp, died after a year and a half battle with stage 4 colon cancer on Thursday, Sept. 7.
Clair tweeted that she was able to be by her father’s side before he died Sept. 7.
Clair also posted a tribute to her father on Instagram, thanking him for “being such a great example of faith and strength” to her as he battled cancer over the past year and a half. “I'll miss you so much, Daddy,” she wrote. “Thanks for teaching me to love salsa and chicken wings and most of all the Lord. Love you lots.”
“America’s Got Talent” sent its condolences to Clair and her family after hearing of Abplanalp’s death.
Christina Perri sent her love to Clair on Friday night and said she would be praying for the Abplanalp family. Clair’s performance of “Arms” by Perri earlier this season earned the 13-year-old a standing ovation from all four of the reality television show's judges, the Deseret News reported. “When my dad is having rough days, then I go to his room and I sing him this song to help him feel better and just to give him comfort and strength to continue fighting,” Clair said on the episode. According to the Deseret News, Perri first reached out to Clair in June and thanked her for singing her song on “America’s Got Talent.”
English singer and songwriter Ella Henderson also said via Twitter that her thoughts and prayers would be with Clair and her family. Clair sang “Yours” by Henderson on Tuesday, Sept. 5, two days before her father’s death, the Deseret News reported. “This song was beautiful. Your voice was beautiful,” judge Simon Cowell said on the show. “Your tone, your pitch were stunning. It was laid back. And let me tell you, your dad is going to be so proud of you.”
Clair’s mother, Hillary Abplanalp, posted her husband’s obituary on her blog on Sept. 9 and wrote that Clair’s experience on "America’s Got Talent" was a great comfort to Amos Abplanalp during his fight against cancer.
“Just as Amos learned of his cancer diagnosis his daughter, Evie Clair, was invited to audition for the show ‘America’s Got Talent,’” the obituary stated. “Her musical talents, bright spirit and love for her father propelled her forward in the show. She made it to the finals the night before her father passed away. He lived his last few months seeing his daughter’s dreams play out and it was the highlight of his life.
“Amos affected many in his life for good through his kindness, humility, wisdom and service. To know Amos was to love him. His faith in God and great love for his family, friends, neighbors and coworkers inspired many.”
