PTA President Sheri Mattle becomes emotional as students at South Jordan Middle School pay tribute Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, on Patriot Day, to first responders and those who lost their lives in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the coordinated attacks directed by al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. On this day, four planes were hijacked — two crashed into the New York World Trade Center; a third crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia; and the fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, was directed at Washington, D.C., but its passengers attempted to take back control and it crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
