RewardExpert released a new report, called the 2017 Labor Day Air Travel Forecast, which ranked the 45 busiest airports over the Labor Day weekend.

RewardExpert examined Department of Transportation flight data during the eight days surrounding Labor Day, plus the holiday itself, from 2011-15 (latest available data) to assess which days during the travel period have the best on-time performance.

The Salt Lake airport was ranked the second best in the country for on-time performance.

"Those who live in the west can trust SLC to be an efficient hub to travel across the country," the report said.

In fact, the study said 90.7 percent of flights at the airport arrive and depart on time.

Salt Lake City ranked behind Daniel K. Inouye Airport in Honolulu.

“Salt Lake City has the second-best record for timely holiday flights. Those who live in the West can trust SLC to be an efficient hub to travel across the country,” the report said.

The report also analyzed best travel times in general for Labor Day. It found leaving on the Wednesday before the holiday is the best day, with fewer cancellations and delays.

The day before Labor Day was also ranked highly, according to the report.

Delta fights also proved to be successful, with 88.4 percent of them arriving and departing on time during the Labor Day travel period. American Airlines ranked in the middle at 84.9 percent of flights arriving on time.

U.S. airports have been known for their busy schedules. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport topped a recent Business Insider list as the busiest airport, while Los Angeles International Airport ranked No. 4.
