HIGHLAND — University of Utah golfer Mitchell Schow and BYU golfer Rhett Rasmussen claimed the two qualifying spots at the U.S. Amateur qualifying tournament Monday at Alpine Country Club.

Schow shot rounds of 65 and 69 for a 134 total, while Rasmussen had rounds of 69 and 65 in the field of 70 golfers. BYU’s Patrick Fishburn took the first alternate spot at 135, while SUU golfer Fidel Concepcion is the second alternate at 137.

Another SUU golfer Ali Hameed led the way after 18 holes with a 10-under-par 62, but shot a 78 in his second round and ended in a tie for seventh place at 140.

The U.S. Amateur will be played Aug. 14-20 at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles.
