Former FBI Director James Comey once tried to hide in plain sight to avoid President Donald Trump, according to The New York Times.
Benjamin Wittes, a friend of Comey, told The Times that Comey often felt uneasy around Trump, saying he didn’t want to visit Trump on multiple occasions.
Wittes told of one specific event on Jan. 22, when Trump hosted a ceremony with law enforcement officers for those who provided security during the inauguration.
Comey told Wittes he didn’t want to go to the event. He even tried to hide from Trump.

Wittes explained that Comey, who wore a blue suit that day, “tried to blend in with the blue curtains in the back of the room,” according to The Times.
“He thought he had gotten through and not been noticed or singled out and that he was going to get away without an individual interaction,” Wittes told the New York Times.

Twitter and the internet had a field day with this new disclosure, turning Comey into a meme, BuzzFeed News reported. Many jokes reference White House press secretary Sean Spicer, who once hid in bushes to avoid the press.
Multiple reports this week said that Trump asked Comey to end his investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who is under investigation for ties into Russia, CNN reported.
Trump tweeted Thursday that there’s no connection and that he’s the victim of a “witch hunt.”https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/865173176854204416
Trump also told reporters Thursday that he’s not involved whatsoever.
"No. No. Next question," Trump said when asked about his involvement.
Trump heads abroad Friday to meet with Middle Eastern leaders and the pope, according to CNN.
