Two Utah high school football teams will be part of an inaugural event in Las Vegas this fall.
The first Polynesian Football Classic will take place Saturday, Sept. 9 at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas and will feature the Alta Hawks and Bingham Miners, as well as Nevada’s Liberty Patriots and the Hawaii powerhouse Kahuku Red Raiders.
Alta will play Liberty in the first game of the day (4:30 p.m. Mountain Time), and Bingham will face off against Kahuku (9 p.m. Mountain Time).
“We are honored to be part of the inaugural Polynesian Football Classic,” Alta head coach Alema Te’o said in a statement announcing the event. “It will be a great cultural experience and an exciting day of football.”
The event, held at the home of the UNLV Rebels, will also feature Grammy-nominated musician Fiji The Artist, who will perform between games.
Tickets for the event go on sale June 1.
Bingham will enter the 2017 season this fall as the reigning 5A state champion, while Alta made it to the 4A semifinals.
