Utah Valley University junior Paul Hoffmeister sets to pass. He became the program's first NSCAA NCAA All-American when he was voted to the third team on Friday.

Utah Valley University junior Paul Hoffmeister was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division I All-America third team, it was announced on Friday. He is UVU’s first NSCAA NCAA All-American.

Hoffmeister is coming off a season in which he helped the Wolverines to a school-record 15 wins, including the team’s first WAC regular season championship.

"Paul has set the standard on and off of the field since he arrived on campus," said UVU head coach Greg Maas. "As our program's first NSCAA All-American, Paul is very deserving of this historic honor, and our entire team and university can take tremendous pride in his recognition."

The German midfielder had a banner junior campaign, earning first-team All-WAC honors as well as first-team NSCAA All-West Region recognition after scoring a team-high nine goals. In addition, Hoffmeister was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America second team, also a first for the program.

He recorded a trio of braces on the season, including in the first two games. Hoffmeister scored both goals in the season-opening 2-1 win over No. 20 Washington and followed that up with two more goals in a 4-2 victory over Evansville. His third brace came in a 2-0 win at Air Force during a school-record, eight-match winning streak en route to the WAC title.

This year’s NSCAA NCAA Division I Men’s All-America Teams feature a total of 36 players, who will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments at the NSCAA All-America Luncheon on Jan. 14, 2017, at the Los Angeles Convention Center in conjunction with the 2017 NSCAA Convention.

Hoffmeister’s award comes on the heels of several other postseason honors for UVU. He was joined on the NSCAA All-West Region first team by Skyler Milne, with Alex Neff and Mitch Jensen earning second-team honors. On Thursday, Neff was named to the Senior CLASS All-American second team.
