Peter Hollens recently released the music video for a Christmas song that is featured on his new album. “December Song” is Hollens’ first original song that questions why the spirit of Christmas disappears when December ends.

“In December we give our gifts wishing well to our world… but why does it change with seasons? And why can’t we just hold on?” the lyrics read.

Hollens is also spreading Christmas cheer by hosting a YouTube competition. He is asking viewers to produce covers of “December Song” in any arrangement or orchestration.

“You can orchestrate this song in any way you want. You just have to use the melody and the lyrics from this song,” Hollens says in the video.

The competition will be judged by the Piano Guys, Madilyn Bailey, Tyler Ward and other YouTubers. The covers are due Dec. 9, and winners will be announced on Dec. 16. To download the arrangement and to submit a cover, visit Hollens’ website.

Hollens is known for singing multiple parts and then overlapping them in his a cappella covers. His YouTube channel has over 1 million subscribers, and he has collaborated with many Utah YouTubers, including the Piano Guys and Lindsey Stirling.
