The Mormon Tabernacle Choir sings a song after its broadcast at the Eccles Theater during "Music and the Spoken Word" as part of a three-day grand opening celebration of the new theater in downtown Salt Lake City on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016. The radio and TV broadcast was the first time in its 88-year history that the program originated from a Salt Lake venue other than the Salt Lake Tabernacle or LDS Conference Center. "The broadcast is the perfect capstone event for our grand opening weekend," said Phil Jordan, the director of the Salt Lake County Center for the Arts. “It is such an honor for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square to be a part of the celebration of this new theater,” said Ron Jarrett, president of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. “Music is at the heart of this community and I know the Eccles Theater will not only be enthusiastically embraced but become a musical tradition for many who live in this valley and beyond.”
