WEST VALLEY CITY ‒ The Super Mods are coming back to Rocky Mountain Raceways and the Copper Cup Classic.
After returning from a six-year absence in 2015, the ground-pounding Super Modified racecars will again attack the 3/8-mile America First Credit Union Super Oval. An expected group of 18-20 Super Mods will be on hand Saturday for what promises to be a thunderous show.
If it’s anything like last year’s race, it’ll be crazy.
Last year, Brian Warf’s No. 91 car came from back in the pack to take an early lead. He stayed out in front until the final lap, when his motor melted down coming out of Turn One. Jim Birges, who’d been running second since lap No. 18, cruised in for the checkered flag.
Warf, who won a 30-lap Sprint Car race at RMR on May 30, has been one of the most dominant racers in the West this season.
He’ll most definitely be looking to take care of some unfinished business come Saturday night.
In addition to the Super Mods, the AFCU Super Oval will feature University Federal Credit Union Sprint Cars, plus Midgets and Brandon Park Roofing F-8 Trains.
Gates open at 4 p.m., qualifying at 5 p.m., heat racing at 6 p.m. and features going off at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Also on the schedule this weekend at RMR, there will be Summit ET racing on the Young Kia Drag Strip. For this event, highly coveted “Wally” awards will be up for grabs.
The spectator gate will open at 4 p.m., with cars on the track at 4:30 p.m.
Also Friday, there will be a test and tune on the AFCU Super Oval. In addition, there will be racing on the MX track.
