A sleeping BYU offense woke up for one quarter, and that's all the Cougars needed.

In the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse National Championships, No. 5 seed BYU moved past No. 12 seed Oregon State with a 7-5 win Monday night in Irvine, California.

Trailing 3-2 at the beginning of the second half, the Cougars erupted for four unanswered goals in the third quarter en route to the win.

Two of the third quarter goals came from the stick of Chris Severson.

When the Beavers went on a run in the final quarter to cut BYU's deficit to 6-5, it was Severson who sealed the deal for the Cougars, with his third goal of the game to give his team the eventual 7-5 win.

Chase Miller had two goals for BYU, while Andrew Bertha and Zach Labrum scored one each.

With the win, BYU advances to a second round matchup against No. 4 seed Georgia Institute of Technology. That game will be played Tuesday at 5 p.m. MDT, also in Irvine. The live stream is available at mcla.us.
